Gu Hye-sun offered role as Uhm Jung-hwa’s copycat in You’re Too Much

We haven’t seen Gu Hye-sun on the small screen since her marriage to Blood co-star Ahn Jae-hyun, although he has been active in both dramas and variety. But now her agency, YG Entertainment, announced that Gu is currently considering the weekend family drama You’re Too Much for her comeback project.
Uhm Jung-hwa (Witch’s Romance) is also in talks to be a lead, and was offered the role of a popular singer named Yoo Ji-na. If Gu Hye-sun confirms, her character will be copycat singer Yoo Jwi-na, who mimics Yoo Ji-na’s every move to gain fame and success.
I’m curious to see how this plays out because the two actresses are opposite in many aspects including age, acting style, and overall career trajectory. They’re fifteen years apart, and while they both seem to be successful when acting in romantic comedies, they usually take vastly different roles. Uhm Jung-hwa’s characters are often strong career-driven women, while Gu Hye-sun has often played Candys or sheltered princesses. Originally, Uhm Jung-hwa started as a pop singer and became the ultimate sexy diva cultural icon of the nineties, then transitioned into acting; conversely, Gu Hye-sun started out as an actress (Pure 19, Boys Over Flowers) and has branched into directing and screenwriting in the past few years.
MBC weekend family drama You’re Too Much will be written by Ha Chung-ok (Make a Woman Cry), a veteran writer of family dramas. It plans to start broadcasting next February, after currently airing Blow Breeze finishes its run.

Whoa, I miss Gu Hye-sun! Besides really enjoying her in passed works, I really think she still needs a very good role to show her skills.
I mean, she had her breakout role with Boys over Flowers, but there is something lacking when I see her acting. And I truly think she is really talented young lady, after all she is an published author, songwriter, musician, singer...
This plot sounds interesting, and I hope she accepts.
I also love Uhm Jung-hwa, she's strong, sassy and funny, but she looks a little plastified nowadays. Almost something like the "Nicole Kidman" effect: still pretty, but unreal.
I hate what industry do with older women, and I wish every single on of them could age just like Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren.

Let's be real, Uhm Junghwa is well into her 40s going to 50 and she has been looking this way for a few years now. What's really matter is she's talented, funny, and is a hell of an rom com queen.

I find it funny that they are acting opposite each other. He plays Gu JunPyo in China ver. LOL and she's Korea Geum Jandi.
Sorry out of the franchise I only rmbr the Korean names for BOFs. It was so iconic.

(Totally off topic) please recommend good rom coms in Chinese drama.. I watched love o2o (my first C drama) I liked it but the plot was very thin for 30 episodes.. is there any website like DB for C dramas ... I searched & didn't find any...

LOL. Chinese don't have much rom-coms as Korea. Love O2O was such a rare one that was fluffy. Usually modern C-dramas are really bad because I don't know there very dramatic and gives me too much makjang and I don't like the flow of it as opposed to K-dramas.
However I do have couple recommendations...
I think you probably enjoy Boss & Me (same author from Love O2O). I actually like Boss & Me and if you watched Love O2O, you'll see a connection. Also, My Sunshine (pretty cute, a little more intense...again same author as Love O2O).
I would sort of recommend Les Interpres or The Interpreters but just like the first 28 episodes. The second half are usually why I stayed away from modern C-dramas. Hope that helps!

I was looking all over for "Heo Nanseolheon," with Gu Hye Seon. It is only a 2 episode drama, but sounds so intriguing about a life of a famous Joseon times poet. I cannot understand why neither Viki nor DramaFever subs it.

Awww, I think of Gu Hye Sun fondly since she was in the drama that kickstarted my kdrama addiction, though her character and acting style in Blood left much to be desired.
A weekender sounds like a good place to really exercise her muscles. Hopefully, she takes more interesting characters in the future like Kim Ah Joong and Jang Hee Jin.

She can't put herself back to A-list after failure in blood as expected, and now just a supporting actress for Uhm.
I hope she'll take this and practice her acting before taking dramas of weekdays slot, though I doubt she'll have any offer for it.

I don't agree. She's not an A-lister before Blood, not even a Hallyu star. What are her contributions to Hallyu except starring in Boys Over Flowers? She's not doing anything outstanding except directing her own movies and composing musics which didn't well received in both local and international market. I don't see any talent on her as a multi entertainer.

She is not a typical actresses or entertainers out there..She also doesn't try to be hallyu star..She just does her job.Thats how she is.Her music genre is not everyone's cup of tea.Have you heard of New age music? Not many know that genre and not many likes it..She does things silently and try out everything which she likes..How many of us even have that guts to do? Her art works are appreciated by lot of people..Just because she doesn't follow the usual standards of entertainers, don't disregard her..She did her job and may be it dint work out well..She has got opportunities to try out various works which she is interested in..One doesn't have any rights to comment on what one has to do or one mustn't do..Pls know her well before badmouthing her..If u r not interested just back off from watching it..

If she's not the typical entertainer, then stop releasing press release when she's having any new side projects excet dramas. She's doing what exactly an entertainer would do. Using her image as an actress to promote her other works extensively.
New age music? I have the guts to try out things I like too, don't generalize and have preconception that she's the only one that try out things she likes. I have a music degree, of course I know about the music genre. What she did were only composing a few pieces and included in her album, she did not arrange them, all were done by some other people. Regarding her art, those were highly overpriced. It happened to be on the news a few times, critics did comment about her using her star power to get things done. She's just an overrated entertainer. As a fan, you should know how much criticisms she received.

Is she going to be the lead lady? How is it even possible for her to land a role with such poor acting abilities. I can foresee it's going to be same as Blood where Ji Jinhee supporting Gu Hye-sun's husband, Ahn Jae-hyun and eventually failed hard.. I adore Uhm Jung-hwa in Witch Romance and waited her to come back on TV screen.. but Gu Hye-sun with no talent.. maybe a pass..

I dint have reply option on your above comment..So m replying here..She never projected herself as just actress..You must have checked out her interviews..She says she doesn't want to choose one.She doesn't wants to be called as actress who try other areas..There is no one doing all these many stuffs continously..All you know is her dramas because not all her works get into news.She never stopped releasing albums or stopped doing art .But after her last movie dint do well she announced that she might not direct further...She also lend her voice to documentary and good causes..Those are not highlighted anywhere well..Just because you don't know her other sides you simply keep thinking she is just an actress like others out there .You think she is merely an actress who tries out things.. because you have checked out only that..You sound soo rude and blunt to call her no talent..Her art works are always highly appreciated and I don't know where you have read them as over-priced but she mostly donated the earnings from them to leukemia children..And so if it's over priced it's totally OK..She doesn't take any money from that..
About her new age music, she herself told in her interview that she just composed them and arrangement was done by her friend/colleague Choi In young.She also told that this genre is totally opposite genre which her agency promotes.Her composition rain from her album Breath topped China's QQ music chart.These days only pop music rules chart.The genre she works are not for charts at all .Koreans might not love her as an actress or director much but you can deny that they love her music and art..I really hope that you simply don't disregard a person before knowing them well..If you hate her just ignore her..She has many people who love her more..

I would suggest to read the good things about her instead of seeing only the negative part.
So if a celeb wants to release a song she should cover her face and do? Lol for fear of antis who might say she is using her name..So she should stop doing things what she likes?

For goodness sake, why did you have to write such a long reply to promote whatever she did? I'm not her fan and I don't need to know how she did all the good deeds whether donating the money or lending her voice. Fyi, everything is on the news, about her art, her music, check out how YG promoted her with the press release. She media played about the QQ music chart too, try asking people from China, it's not a big deal in China and YG released news as if she has some big achievement in music composition. She did not keep her things low profile. I knew her information by just reading translation from Kdrama and Kpop related news sites.
As I have read enough of information about what she's doing, I have the right and freedom to write how I feel about her online. I don't have to like her to write good things about her and hate her to badmouth her.
Please observe your surroundings before claiming that I'm rude and disregard her. She's all fine as a person and that's her life. But do you know why all other readers from blogs and translation sites don't like her fans? And they even stop translating news about her? It's because people like you always write long essays to fight back on anyone who write something which is not on her side.
Keep loving her then. I would like to see how she sustain in the showbiz industry with the fans love - when drama ratings failed badly, movies did not breakeven, music did not get into any charts and art pieces not selling well..

FYI her song topping QQ chart is not a big deal for a K-Pop song but it's a big deal when it's new age music..I m not saying this to tell she has star power..Just understand I quoted this example that her works are loved by many people and she is talented..She doesn't try to be a hallyu star..She just want to work and entertain people in her way..If you don't like you can tell in polite way but you can't come to a conclusion that she doesn't have talent..That's really rude of you..You have freedom to tell you don't like her but you don't have right to say she doesn't have talent which is mere bashing.

Im still waiting to the 4rth episode to have a subtitle. It is really a great drama.. Gu Hye Sun is very different in this drama. She act very well.. The emotion is very intense that made me cry when she is crying. Her acting is improving..hope she will wear a nice dress, good make up, hairdo to the next episodes.. Good luck Ku Hye Sun!
